Join Medicare expert Jan Whitfield (with Paul Winkler) for this practical workshop replay, which was designed to help you understand and enroll in medicare. We cover what it is, what it covers—what it doesn’t cover—what it costs, and how to enroll. We’ll also talk about long-term health care in general, and how to best take care of your health throughout retirement.
Paul is the President and founder of Paul Winkler, Inc., a registered investment advisory firm located in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Paul began his career in the financial services industry in 1989 through—like countless others—insurance and mutual fund sales.
After discovering the academic research on investing, he was compelled to start his own business. “With my new understanding of investing, I could no longer, in good conscience, work for the broker-dealer selling products. I wanted to offer clients an investing experience unlike what they would find elsewhere, where they wouldn’t feel sold to, but instead would be coached to understand investing.”
Paul’s unique approach to the world of investing and financial planning stems from his strong belief that the traditional approach to the discipline is often driven more by marketing and sales of financial products than it is by sound investment philosophies. Paul is the author of the book “Above the Maddening Crowd” which is endorsed by many financial teachers and university professors around the country.
I’ve been in the medical field for many years, starting in pharmaceuticals, and moving to health insurance in 2010. I really enjoyed this profession because I helped people navigate the extremely confusing maze of health insurance. I enjoy matching clients with the best health insurance policy and allowing them to keep their doctors.
Then came the onset of “Obamacare and the Marketplace.” This changed the entire landscape of health insurance and it became a very unstable business to remain in. So, I joined Tim Brown—who has 32-years of Medicare experience— to focus on Medicare with the company Insurance Services of TN & KY. Together, we have 59 years of experience in healthcare and insurance.
My pharmaceutical experience has certainly benefited my Medicare clients in many ways. I understand doctors, hospitals and prescription drugs in ways other agents don’t. This makes me a very unique Medicare specialist. I also educate my clients on how to buy their drugs. For example, you don’t always have to use your Part D drug card. So, if they have a high price drug, I look at other ways to get the price down and/or teach them how to get their doctor to prescribe a lower priced drug.
I currently live in the Brentwood area. My hobbies are hiking, biking, working out, traveling, karaoke and of course… country music. Side note… I am also a licensed Real Estate Broker.
